This position is responsible for providing safe, quality respiratory patient care and teaching to patients and families. Provides respiratory care and testing in Adult and Pediatric Critical Care Units, including, but not limited to: initiation and management of mechanical ventilation, capnography and pulse oximetry, interprets wave forms (including ventilatory, capnographic and pulse oximeter), assists MD with therapeutic and diagnostic bronchoscopies, understands basic chest x-ray interpretations (ET tube placement and gross anatomical changes), performs airway intubation and performs metabolic studies on intubated and non-intubated patients. Also provides respiratory care and testing in the Infant Special Care Unit (ISCU) including, but not limited to: transcutaneous PO2 and PCO2 monitoring, overnight desaturation studies, pneumography, management of artificial airways, transportation of infants externally and internally, and drawing of blood samples for blood gas analysis. Additional responsibilities include collaboration with the health care team, participation in on-going feedback regarding performance improvement, implementation of clinical pathway/plan of care to guide patient care delivery and participation in the education and evaluation of other staff members. This position may directly supervise other employees and students in assigned services. 1 year of acute care experience in Adult/Neonatal/Critical Care is required. In lieu of this experience, consideration will be made for an applicant with strong education and associated experiential background. Must be a gr aduate of an AMA accredited School for Respiratory Care or equivalent. A c urrent California RCP license is required. A c urrent American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required. An RRT (Registered Respiratory Therapist) is preferred or actively pursuing. Looking for a respiratory care practitioner with at least 1 year of critical care, or emergency department experience, with adult and pediatric patients. NRP, PALS and ACLS certifications are preferred.
